7/25/2023 0 Comments Ark survival evolved platformsSometimes, I got attacked by something that I did not even saw coming. And although this is not necessarily bad, it was just tedious to walk and walk to a certain spot, knowing that every step could be your last. Sure there are many dinosaurs in the vicinity, but most of the times, they one hit kill you so you avoid them like the plague. You walk miles and miles through empty plains and forests before something of interest happens. There are many forests, flowers, wildlife and rivers, which makes the game less hollow than Atlas, but it still feels blend and empty. The worlds are massive, which is normal for sandbox games like this. I reinstalled the game three times over the course of a few weeks back then, because that was the only way that I could play with my friends. And even then, one day it works fine, the day after one of my friends experienced the same issues out of the blue. I needed to search the deepest pits of the internet for all kinds of tweaks, fixes, startup parameters and more to finally get it working. Many times, servers did not show up, games with friends were not visible and many times, the game got stuck in loading. The servers and matchmaking system in Ark: Survival Evolved are terrible. I sincerely did not like anything related to the controls or GUI. I constantly pressed the wrong keys to open or close menu’s, did not know where to find stuff, inventory management became a real chore sometimes, and I had the feeling that I was playing some sort of SQL database many times over. My God, the overlay, GUI and skill tree system is so unbelievable confusing, it drove me mad sometimes. But then, you got the controls and menu’s. The music and sounds are blend and nothing special. The animations of characters are stiff and lifeless, especially when doing things like sleeping or mounting your dinosaur pet. The lighting effects from the sun are great though. The graphics are fair, although a little rough in my opinion. Just go out into the wild and grind your way up. You collect stuff, build stuff and kill stuff to gather XP, level up, unlock perks and new skills and overall, just to be granted the right to do more advanced things in the game like tame a certain dinosaur or build a specific plank or wooden corner. In Ark: Survival Evolved, you start as an empty character without any skills. While the concept of these games are fine and the survival element is surely present, it gets boring and repetitive really fast in my opinion. I only have about 8ish hours with this game so my review is based on initial impression and overall potential the game has. This game is JUST in early access so I expect to see some of the animations, bugs, and slight clipping issues get resolved over time. Biggest issues are that it does take a pretty meaty rig to take full advantage of the graphics (seems like a modified Crytek engine) on the highest settings. If you are swimming to long and you run out of stamina you may actually drown just like in real life). Not the most "realistic" survival game in existence but it does take a more grounded approach to movement and fatigue (i.e. Lots of solo and community driven gameplay elements and a pretty immersive world to be in. GIVE THIS GAME A SHOT! Great "next/current" gen survival game! Has a lot of great promise but a rather steep learning curve if playing alone GIVE THIS GAME A SHOT! Great "next/current" gen survival game! Has a lot of great promise but a rather steep learning curve if playing alone (similar to Don't Starve), but has a ton of potential for being the next great survival game. Couldn't get any help with the first one because I couldn't remember the dino's name and it had been a few days (it was dead, jim), but the second one got resolved speedily. Yeah the game's support is genuinely terrible, but I only had to use it twice, once when I got a dinosaur stuck underneath the terrain (back in early access - and this only happened once) and second when I messed up with tranferring tribe ownership. A lot of the bugs people have mentioned have been fixed since well before EA, I'm not sure what they're going on about. Even if you have a good card, be prepared to turn those settings down to medium or low to get playable fps. That's ~41 days of nothing but playing this game. While it has its problems, I can't justify giving this game anything less than a 10.
